22nd April: Coming up on Lionheart Radio tomorrow 5pm… Have you ever wondered what a Credit Union is for? Why is it different from a bank? How can it save people from going to payday lenders, or loan sharks? What does it mean to join a Credit Union? To find out, and to learn more, join Simon Nolan on Monday Mix in a conversation with Chris Wilson who runs the Alnwick branch of the Northumberland Credit Union.
30th March: We don’t routinely do instant loans – but we do have a pot of money called the “Repossession Prevention Fund” which is available to give five year interest-free loans to people in mortgage or rent arrears. It isn’t suitable for people in deep debt trouble – since you have to repay the loan AND continue to keep up with your ongoing mortgage or rent payments.
Eligibility for loans is assessed by the Citizens’ Advice Bureaux – we just manage the loans – so contact your CAB (in Northumberland) if interested.
19th March: Opening hours at our Stobhill office and now back to normal – the Mondays and Fridays plus 2nd & 4th Wednesdays 9am – 12noon – and the Morpeth-Stobhill paying-in point Tuesdays 10-12noon.
Emails and phone messages will be regularly monitored and all other paying-in points continue to operate normally.

2nd October 2017: Welcome to our refurbished and relaunched website. Do let us know what you think of it! We welcome suggestions for improvements.
1st October 2017: Our loan interest rate increases to 1.25% per calendar month on the outstanding balance (16.1% APR) from today. This is due to the loss of grantfunding from Northumberland CC, but we believe it is still one of the lowest interest rates available for loans up to £3000. Pre-existing loans will continue to be charged at 1% interest per calendar month.
